La tradition psychanalytique en Suède n'est peut-être pas bien connue pour les lecteurs français. Cependant, il existe dans notre petit pays plus de 300 psychanalystes, parmi lesquelles un certain nombre travaillent aussi avec les enfants. Il existe aussi un certain intérêt de la tradition psychanalytique en France. Comme nous sommes francophones, nous avons établi des contacts avec plusieurs de nos collègues français, et ainsi, un de nous, est membre de la Société Européenne de la Psychanalyse d'Enfants et d'Adolescents, le SEPEA. Certains de nos publications sont apparues en français, dans des divers volumes. Nous avons aussi présenté notre recherche sur les thérapies mère-nourrisson à Paris et Lyon.

Un de nos passions, sauf le travail et la recherche scientifique, est la pédagogie. Après avoir eu des rencontres passionnants et énigmatiques aves nos petits patients, nous nous sommes demandés: comment faire visualiser, pour un plus grand public, ce qui peut se passer dans nos cabinets? Notre solution est devenue de faire de petites correspondances entre un enfant et un de nous deux. Cela nous a permis de maintenir un ton ludique même que sérieux et professionnel. Nous vivons tous, en France et en Suède, dans un climat culturel qui prend parti contre la psychanalyse comme étant passée et non-scientifique. Nous sommes en opposition de cette vue, en pensant que les traitements psychanalytiques offrent une perspective unique sur l'âme, qu'elle soit adulte ou enfant. Le problème est plutôt de rendre compréhensible les conclusions que fait l'analyste dans son cabinet. Voilà que le livre vise à les faire plus accessible pour nos lecteurs.

Nous travaillons en libéral avec la psychanalyse et la psychothérapie. En outre, nous sommes des chercheurs scientifiques. Cet intérêt nous est venue grâce à notre travail avec les tous petits enfants. Il nous est devenue de plus en plus évident qu’il est nécessaire d’instituer les traitements dans des cas de « baby worries », dès que possible. Le but est d’éviter, si possible, que les problèmes se cimentent dans un impasse émotionnel entre parent et bébé. Cet intérêt nous a amené aux plusieurs centres psychothérapeutiques en Europe et aux Etats-Unis, et a aussi résulté aux plusieurs publications et livres. Nous avons aussi essayé de répandre les cures brèves psychanalytiques par des thérapeutes qui sont placés dans les PMI à Stockholm. Cette méthode est en train d’être évalué dans un projet de recherche.
